BIR 1011 - Flute Fundamentals (Spring)

Building on skills learned in BIR 1010, further techniques of disassembly, tenon fitting, head cork, key fitting, dent removal, padding, tone hole leveling, regulation corks, and play testing will be covered. Nomenclature of the flute family, care of metal finishes, straightening body, alignment, spring replacement, and soft and silver soldering will be taught. The course project will be a complete repad on a flute. The student is introduced to safe use and handling of shop equipment, tools. Grading is based on project evaluation at end of course. (Prerequisite: BIR1010 or field experience commensurate with course content as determined by instructor)
