HIP - Haiti Instrument Program

CIOMIT wants to join forces with you to bring music back to the children of Haiti.

As events continue to unfold in Haiti, we are just beginning to see the long-term affects that will follow this devastation. Although the world has joined together to try to meet the Haitian’s most basic needs in the short term, Haiti will continue to need assistance for many years to come, and in many different ways.

One of the devastating effects of the earthquake was the destruction of the country's École Sainte Trinité, which was a bastion for music education in Haiti. Although the loss of this and other music education facilities is a tragedy, it is certainly not a priority during these first phases of recovery.

Understanding the immediate need, CIOMIT has contributed financially to aid organizations to help ease the suffering in Haiti, but we want to do more. We want to help to bring music back to the children of Haiti by rebuilding and distributing musical instruments for music education once the country’s infrastructure has stabilized.

Music education enriches the lives of children around the world, and gives hope and joy in trying times. This is why CIOMIT is launching a long-term nation wide drive, to collect, repair and distribute donated musical instruments to students in Haiti.

For more information about the “Haiti Instrument Program”(HIP), or to learn how to donate instruments, please contact Daniel Parker at dparker@ciomit.com or telephone 303-663-4084.

HIP Concept of Operations:

First and foremost, this is a long-term project. CIOMIT will collect instrument donations for approximately 12-18 months; repair or overhaul them; partner with other organizations to expand the program; and at a time to be determined in the future, travel with a small contingency of representatives (hopefully including famous US musicians) to Haiti to deliver the instruments. During that time we will work to build partnerships with music education organizations in Haiti to fully develop the implementation portion of the HIP program.

Ways you can help:

1- Donate Instruments!

2- “Buy” or “Sponsor” an instrument for a student in Haiti program ($25 donation gets you before/after pics of your instrument and the instrument with its new owner/player in Haiti)

3- Donate money for the repair/rebuilding of instruments

4- Donate supplies for the instrument repair program

5- Partner with CIOMIT

If CIOMIT does not have financial donations adequate to cover the cost of instrument repairs and shipping, we will auction some instruments to help fund the HIP program to ensure we can get a many instruments as possible into the hands of kids in Haiti.
