BIR 1010 - Clarinet Fundamentals (Summer)

Diagnose and repair basic problems associated with woodwind instruments in the clarinet family. Proper disassembly techniques, corking of tenons, proper key fitting, padding, key corking, and regulation/adjusting as well as play testing the instrument will be taught. Nomenclature, key straightening, crack repair, proper care of wood, and spring replacement. The course project will include a complete overhaul of a clarinet. Students are introduced to safe use and handling of shop equipment, tools as well. Grading is based on project evaluation at end of course. (Prerequisite: None)
