Diagnose and repair basic problems associated with woodwind instruments in the saxophone family. Proper disassembly techniques, corking of neck, proper key fitting, padding, key corking, and regulation/adjusting as well as play testing the instrument will be taught. Nomenclature, key straightening, dent work, soldering, spot lacquering, and spring replacement. The course project will include a complete overhaul of a saxophone. Students are introduced to safe use and handling of shop equipment, tools as well. Grading is based on project evaluation at end of course. (Prerequisite: BIR 1010 and BIR 1020)
